How to use Image Watermark Adder

What this tool does

The Image Watermark Adder overlays a copyright mark, logo, or brand identifier directly on top of a photo entirely inside your browser. You choose between two modes: a text watermark, where you type your mark and control font size and colour, or an image watermark, where you supply a second image — a transparent-background logo or signature PNG, for example — which is then scaled and composited on the photo. A 9-cell position grid lets you snap the watermark to any corner, edge, or the centre of the image. An opacity slider sets how prominently it shows, and a tile mode repeats the watermark in a diagonal grid across the whole surface.

Photographers sharing work on social media or stock sites need a way to mark their images before they leave their hands. Without a watermark, a high-quality photo can be scraped and reused without credit. Bloggers and content creators often want a consistent brand mark on every hero image they publish. Rather than opening a heavy desktop editor each time, a browser-based watermarker handles the job in seconds. How to use it

  1. Drop your photo into the upload area, or click to browse to it.
  2. Choose Text or Image in the watermark type control.
  3. For text: type your mark, set the font size with the slider, and pick a colour with the colour picker.
  4. For image: upload your logo or signature image. PNG files with a transparent background work best. Use the size slider to scale it relative to the photo.
  5. Drag the opacity slider to taste — 50–70% is usually enough to be visible without dominating the photo.
  6. Click a cell in the position grid to move the watermark, or turn on Tile / repeat to spread it across the whole image.
  7. The preview updates live. When you are satisfied, click Download watermarked image to save a PNG to your device.

Format and quality notes

The output is always saved as a PNG, which is a lossless format that preserves the full quality of the original photo. If your original was a JPEG, the download will be slightly larger than the original because PNG does not use JPEG’s lossy compression. This is usually acceptable for the use case — you are adding a watermark to keep, not to optimise. If you need a smaller file, run the output through the Image Compressor and export it as JPEG or WebP. JPEG is ideal for photographs where a 5–10% quality loss is invisible; WebP gives similar quality at smaller file sizes and is supported by all modern browsers and most social media platforms.

Tips for best results

A white or light-coloured text watermark at around 60% opacity tends to read well over most photographic content, since photos are rarely pure white in all areas. On very light images, use a dark or black watermark instead. The colour picker lets you sample any value, so you can match your brand palette exactly.

For logos, prepare a PNG with a transparent background before uploading as the watermark image. A logo exported from any vector editor (Illustrator, Figma, Inkscape) with “export as PNG with transparency” ticked will composite cleanly over any photo without a rectangular halo around it.

If you are watermarking a batch of images, process them one at a time and re-download each. Because the tool runs entirely locally, there are no rate limits, no subscription needed, and no queue — each image processes in a fraction of a second on modern hardware.

No — your image never leaves your device. The watermark is composited directly inside your browser using an HTML canvas element. No file is sent over the network, no account is needed, and nothing is stored on our end. You can verify this by opening your browser's Network tab while using the tool; you will see zero image upload requests.
What is the difference between the text and image watermark modes?
Text mode lets you type any string — a copyright line, your website URL, a brand name — and style it with font size and colour. Image mode lets you upload a second image, such as a logo or signature PNG, which is then scaled and placed on top of the photo. PNG logos with a transparent background blend most naturally.
Which position should I choose for best visibility?
Bottom-right is the most common convention for copyright marks and is where viewers expect to see attribution. However, on photos with bright or busy lower-right corners the watermark may be hard to read. Try bottom-left or one of the centred positions if visibility is poor, or use the tile mode to repeat the watermark in a pattern across the entire image.
Will the watermark appear on every frame of an animated GIF?
The tool converts the input to a static PNG when it downloads. Animated GIFs are decoded to their first frame. If you need a watermarked animated image, you will need a specialist animated-GIF editor.
What output format does the download use?
The download is always a PNG, which preserves full quality and supports transparency. If file size is a concern, run the download through the Image Compressor tool afterwards to convert it to JPEG or WebP.
