What this tool does

The Lorem Ipsum Generator produces placeholder text — meaningless filler used to mock up a page before the real words are written. You choose a flavour, decide whether to count in paragraphs, sentences or words, set the amount, and the tool assembles the text instantly. Three flavours are available: classic Latin Lorem Ipsum, a hipster vocabulary of trendy lifestyle words, and a pirate-themed bank of nautical slang. Every flavour produces the same kind of structured nonsense; only the words differ. Generation happens entirely in your browser from word lists bundled with the page.

Why you might need it

Designs need content to look real, but real content is rarely ready when the layout is being built. If you drop in a placeholder like “headline goes here” repeated everywhere, the mockup looks broken and the spacing tells you nothing. Lorem Ipsum solves this by filling the layout with text that has realistic word lengths, sentence rhythm and paragraph breaks — without carrying any meaning that would distract a reviewer.

That lack of meaning is the point. When a stakeholder sees real draft copy in a mockup, the conversation drifts to wording and tone instead of the design. Latin gibberish keeps everyone focused on what the review is actually about: type sizes, line length, column widths, and how the page breathes. Developers use the same text to stress-test components — does a card still look right with three lines of text, or with thirty? Placeholder copy makes those cases easy to create.

How to use it

1. Pick a Flavour: Lorem Ipsum, Hipster Ipsum or Pirate Ipsum.
2. Choose what to Generate by — Paragraphs, Sentences or Words.
3. Drag the slider to set the amount, anywhere from 1 up to 50.
4. Decide whether to Start with the classic opening — when ticked, the output begins with that flavour’s familiar opening line.
5. Click Generate. The text appears in the box below.
6. Use Copy text to send the result to your clipboard, ready to paste into a design file, template or code.

The tool starts with three paragraphs already generated, so there is something to copy the moment the page loads.

Common pitfalls

Placeholder text is a tool for the design phase, not the launch phase. The most common mistake is shipping a page with Lorem Ipsum still in it — search the finished site for “lorem” or “ipsum” before going live. Another trap is using a huge block of filler to judge a layout that will really hold a short label; match the amount of placeholder text to the amount of real content you expect, or the mockup will mislead you.

Be aware that placeholder text is all one language and has no real headings, links or emphasis. If your layout depends on those elements, add them manually rather than assuming the filler provides them. And because the words are meaningless, do not rely on Lorem Ipsum to test spell-check, translation or search features — use realistic sample copy for that.

Tips and advanced use

Generate by words when you need to fill an element with a precise length, such as a fixed-width caption or a truncated preview. Generate by sentences for things like list items or short descriptions, and by paragraphs for article bodies and long-form blocks. Turning the classic opening off gives you a fresh, less recognisable block each time — useful when several placeholder areas sit close together and an identical opening line would look odd.

The hipster and pirate flavours are more than a joke: a themed mockup, a playful product, or a client who finds Latin distracting can all benefit from filler that fits the tone.
